Data & Analytics
Good decisions rely on good information
Data and analytics help you understand how people use your website, how your communication is landing and where improvements will have the most impact. At Beyond Metrix, we help organisations build reliable measurement foundations, interpret their data with confidence and use those insights to guide meaningful change.
Data should tell a story. It should show how people move through your website, highlight patterns and trends over time and help you see what is improving and what still needs attention. It should also demonstrate return on investment by showing what is delivering value, what is not and where your time and budget are having a measurable effect.
When your data is not accurate
Reliable reporting depends on accurate tracking, yet many organisations discover issues only when the numbers do not look right. GA4 may show missing events, inflated direct traffic, unassigned or undefined channels or discrepancies with Search Console and Ads. These problems often originate in Tag Manager, consent tools, cross site tracking or legacy scripts that conflict with newer configurations. Understanding the cause and correcting it is a core part of building a stable measurement foundation that supports confident decision making.

Services within data and analytics
Website auditing
A clear assessment of how your website is performing, covering technical health, content effectiveness, user experience and measurement accuracy. Provides a prioritised roadmap for improvement.
Communications auditing
An evaluation of how your messages land with stakeholders, customers and different audience groups. Reviews clarity, tone, inclusivity, accessibility and alignment with your organisational values.
Custom dashboards

GA4 configuration
Accurate tracking that reflects real behaviour and meaningful events. Many organisations discover issues only when their data does not look right, whether that is unassigned or undefined traffic, missing conversions or numbers that do not match other platforms. We review the full measurement setup, identify the cause of inaccurate or incomplete data and configure GA4 in a structured and sustainable way.
Tag Manager configuration
Structured, reliable Tag Manager setups that reduce duplication and errors, improve measurement accuracy and simplify ongoing management. We diagnose issues such as tags not firing, duplicate events, incorrect sequencing and conflicts created by legacy scripts or consent tools, and ensure your tracking is stable and consistent.
Turning insight into action
Data is most useful when it leads to improvement. Our work focuses on giving you insight that is practical, understandable and directly useful. We help you move from raw information to clear action, whether you are refining content, improving accessibility, strengthening user journeys or developing a longer term digital strategy.

Frequently asked questions about GA4 accuracy
Why does GA4 show unassigned traffic
Unassigned traffic appears when GA4 cannot determine the source or medium of a visit. This is often caused by missing UTM parameters, redirects that strip tracking information or consent tools that block analytics scripts before they can collect the required fields. It can also reflect Tag Manager conflicts or legacy scripts that override your intended setup. Once the underlying issue is identified, channel reporting becomes clear and reliable.
Why does GA4 show undefined
Undefined usually appears when an event parameter that GA4 expects to receive is missing or incomplete. This can happen when Tag Manager triggers fire in the wrong order, when older scripts conflict with Tag Manager or when consent tools prevent certain data from being collected. Cleaning up the configuration ensures that parameters populate consistently.
Why is direct traffic so high in GA4
A large increase in direct traffic often means GA4 has lost visibility of the original source. This may happen when links are not tagged, when redirects break sessions or when cross site tracking has not been configured correctly. Consent tools can also cause GA4 to record the first pageview without source information. Once the cause is addressed, direct traffic returns to a realistic level.
Why are referrals so high in GA4
High referral traffic often indicates a problem with cross site tracking. If www and non www versions of a domain are not treated as a single property, GA4 may record movements between them as external referrals rather than part of the same visit. It can also happen when older analytics scripts conflict with Tag Manager or when consent tools interrupt the expected sequence of events. Correcting these issues stabilises referral data.
Why do GA4 and Search Console not match
GA4 measures user behaviour on your website, while Search Console measures search visibility and clicks from Google search. They use different counting methods, timeframes and filtering rules, so the numbers will not match exactly. Large or unexpected discrepancies usually point to a measurement or setup issue that can be reviewed and corrected.
